Shaheed El Hafed, 4 April 2025 (SPS) – The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, arrived on Friday at the Sahrawi refugee camps in an effort to revive the process of achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Sahrawi cause.
Mr. De Mistura was welcomed by the Polisario Front’s representative to the UN and coordinator with MINURSO, a member of the National Secretariat, Sidi Mohamed Amar, as well as the Central Director of Protocol, Mr. Bellahi Essiyad.
The visit of the UN envoy to the Sahrawi refugee camps comes ahead of a closed-door briefing he is set to deliver to the UN Security Council in mid-April regarding the latest developments in the occupied territory.
Among the speakers expected at this session is the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Alexander Ivanko.
