Shaheed El Hafed, April 2, 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi National Committee for Human Rights welcomed the initiative launched by the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora Affairs to secure the release of Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan prisons.
In a statement, the Committee praised the ministry's announcement of the launch of a national and international campaign for the release of all political prisoners, under the slogan " Freedom for Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Jails."
The Committee expressed its full solidarity with all Sahrawi political prisoners, who have faced systematic repression and torture by the Moroccan state due to their political stance in defense of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.
It also commended the spirit of defiance and resilience shown by the prisoners of Gdeim Izik, the Student Line Group, and Sahrawi journalists, as well as their families, and their unwavering rejection of the situation of occupation and its vile tactics.
The statement called on the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and the Spanish government to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the decolonization of Western Sahara, the protection of human rights, and the establishment of an international mechanism to monitor and safeguard human rights in the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic.
