Addis Ababa, 15 February 2025 (SPS) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated Saturday in Addis Ababa that it was time to address the historical injustices stemming from Africa's colonization.
“It is time to address the historical injustices stemming from Africa's colonization and its impact on its peoples,” he said in a speech delivered at the opening of the 38th African Union (AU) summit.
On this occasion, the UN Secretary-General criticized Africa's lack of representation on the UN Security Council, stating that Africa's absence from this council is “unjustifiable.”
In this regard, he committed to “work with the AU to correct this injustice and strengthen Africa's effective representation on the Security Council by granting the continent two permanent seats.”
