Madrid, February 2, 2025 (SPS) – Spanish political parties, Sumar and Izquierda Unida (IU), have called on the government to demand explanations from Morocco after three members of the Basque Parliament were prevented from entering Western Sahara, according to the Spanish press.

According to SUMAR, the parliamentarians believe that Morocco's actions are serious, given that it was an official trip by members of the Basque Parliament that was duly communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

IU also requests that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provide "explanations" from the Moroccan authorities after blocking the entry of a Basque Parliament delegation.

"The Moroccan arbitrariness in denying entry to the Basque Parliament is more than sufficient reason, especially considering the series of recent incidents, for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to demand explanations and file complaints with the Moroccan government," stated the Spanish party IU, according to Spanish newspapers.

Morocco has already expelled more than 300 people from 21 countries, including parliamentarians, human rights activists, and journalists, from Western Sahara.
