Brussels (Belgum) 14 January 2025 (SPS)— The Frente POLISARIO has strongly condemned the recent arson attack on the offices of the Danish NGO Global Aktion, calling it a "heinous act" that underscores Morocco's attempts to suppress international solidarity with the Saharawi people's struggle for independence.
In a press release issued from its representation to Europe and the EU, the POLISARIO Front denounced the attack as a direct assault on the values of justice, freedom, and international solidarity. The incident, which involved Molotov cocktails and hate-filled graffiti targeting the Saharawi people, has been characterized as an escalation of Morocco’s campaign to silence dissenting voices abroad.
The POLISARIO Front highlighted Global Aktion’s pivotal role in advocating for the rights of oppressed peoples, including its steadfast support for the Saharawi cause. “This cowardly act of arson is not merely an attack on their organization but a deliberate attempt to silence those who dare to challenge Morocco’s illegal occupation of Western Sahara and expose its grave human rights violations,” the statement reads.
The organization emphasized that this attack must be viewed within the broader context of Morocco's repression, noting that the Moroccan regime has long employed brutal tactics within the occupied territories of Western Sahara. These include extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and the torture of human rights defenders. The attack on Global Aktion, the POLISARIO Front adds, is evidence of Morocco's willingness to expand its campaign of intimidation to target international solidarity movements.
The POLISARIO Front called the firebombing a stark reminder of Morocco’s determination to maintain its illegal occupation by stifling growing global support for the Saharawi cause. The attack, according to the statement, exemplifies a regime emboldened by the complicity and silence of certain global powers that have failed to hold Morocco accountable for its actions.
Reaffirming its solidarity with Global Aktion, the POLISARIO Front expressed profound gratitude for the NGO’s unwavering commitment to justice and human rights. “This heinous attack will not deter the Saharawi people, nor will it diminish the resolve of our allies around the world,” the statement affirmed.
POLISARIO Front pledged to continue its efforts to expose Morocco’s human rights violations and to achieve freedom and independence for Western Sahara.
It urged the international community to condemn the attack in the strongest terms and to hold Morocco accountable for its ongoing campaign of repression and violence. "The attack on Global Aktion is an attack on the very principles of justice and solidarity that underpin the global struggle for human rights and dignity,” the statement asserted.
The Saharawi people, the statement concluded, will not be silenced. “We will continue our just struggle until Western Sahara is free, and we stand united with all those who champion the cause of justice and freedom, undeterred by the cowardly acts of those who seek to oppress us.”
