Auserd (refugee camps), 8 December 2024 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim ghali, affirmed that the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on the cancellation of Morocco-EU trade agreements, illegally including the territories of Western Sahara, “are a recognition of the Sahrawi people’s rights, that some attempt to deny, notably regarding its resources and sovereignty over its territory.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the works of the International Seminar on the Legal Status of Western Sahara (5-6 December), the Sahrawi president recalled that the themes discussed during this meeting had the objective of enlightening the participants concerning the Sahrawi cause and the defense of the legal rights and the Sahrawi people’s resources.

He expressed his thanks to the participants for the efforts made to organize conferences and meetings, particularly on the latest ruling of the CJEU, "which recognizes the Sahrawi people's rights that some attempt to deny, notably with regard to its resources and its sovereignty over its territory.”

The CJEU had rejected, on October 4, the appeal filed by the Council and the European Commission against the European Tribunal's decision annulling two Morocco-EU agreements that illegally included the territories of Western Sahara, and decided to cancel these agreements.

The decision of the CJEU provides that "the EU-Morocco trade agreements of 2019 relating to fishing and agricultural products, rejected by the people of Western Sahara, were concluded in contempt of the principles of this people's right to self-determination.
