Shaheed Al Hafed, 25 November 2024 (SPS) - The International Federation of Journalists in Solidarity with the Saharawi People condemns in the strongest terms the physical attack on the journalist and coordinator of the Middle Team, Mohamed Mayara.
This is yet another attempt to prevent the Saharawi press from reporting on the violations of human rights and international humanitarian law taking place in the occupied Saharawi territories.
This violent attack orchestrated by the authorities of the Moroccan regime against journalist Mohamed Mayara aims to silence the voice of the Saharawi people who are suffering the horrors of the most barbaric colonialism.
The International Federation of Journalists in Solidarity with the Saharawi People denounces this umpteenth attempt to silence free voices in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
It also denounces the complicit silence of the international community, which allows the Moroccan occupation authorities to continue to repress freedom of expression and human rights in Western Sahara with impunity.
The International Federation of Journalists in Solidarity with the Saharawi People calls on the international community, the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to protect the Saharawi people through the rigorous application of Security Council resolutions guaranteeing the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
