Shaheed Al-Hafed, November 24, 2024 (SPS) - Coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Women’s Empowerment hosted Sunday a conference on international strategies to combat violence against women, condemning the acts of violence against Sahrawi women in the occupied parts of Western Sahara.

On this occasion, the ministry issued a statement to the national and international public, denouncing all human rights violations in the occupied areas of Western Sahara and all forms of violence perpetrated against Sahrawi women who reject Moroccan occupation and its discriminatory policies against the Sahrawi people.

The statement highlighted the daily suffering of Sahrawi women, including beatings, abuse, assault, rape, and the confiscation of their rights and freedoms.

It further noted the systemic ignorance, impoverishment, and restrictions imposed on their access to means of livelihood, effectively turning the occupied part of Western Sahara into a large prison that does not allow human rights organizations to enter.

The ministry also called on the MINURSO mission to assume full responsibility for protecting Sahrawi women from the oppression of the Moroccan occupation by activating a United Nations mechanism to safeguard them and enable them to express their opinions freely.

Additionally, the ministry urged women around the world to stand in solidarity with Sahrawi women in their noble struggle for a better world characterized by peace and social justice.
