Algiers, November 18, 2024 (SPS) - The Algerian Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Laqab, received his Sahrawi counterpart, Hamada Salma, at his his ministry. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar.
The meeting was an opportunity to review various aspects of bilateral cooperation in the field of media and communication, recognizing the importance and role of this sector in addressing national and international issues.
Algerian Communication Minister Mohamed Laqab reaffirmed Algeria's unwavering support for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence. He expressed full willingness for cooperation and support, emphasizing the need to establish a joint action plan that meets the requirements of the current stage and contributes to strengthening and developing cooperative relations in the media sector.
For his part, Mr. Hamada Salma presented a report on the state of Sahrawi media and the challenges it faces. He explained that despite difficulties and limited resources, Sahrawi media has achieved significant gains.
The Minister praised Algeria's steadfast position in support of the Sahrawi people's rights and its ongoing advocacy in various international forums for the legitimate right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
He highlighted the important role that Algerian media plays through its various platforms in keeping up with developments in the Sahrawi cause and countering the policies of obscurantism and misinformation carried out by the Moroccan occupation regime and its allies.
