Ouguift (Mauritania), August 17, 2024 (SPS) - As part of the events celebrating Nouakchott as the capital of Hassaniya culture, a major cultural and literary festival has begun in the historic city of Ouguift in the Adrar region of Mauritania, under the theme "Ouguift, Capital of Hassaniya Culture."
The festival, organized by the World Union of Hassaniya Writers, was officially inaugurated by the administrative and regional authorities of the Adrar region. It saw extensive participation from cultural and literary figures from within Mauritania and abroad, most notably the participation of a delegation from the Sahrawi Republic and a delegation from sisterly Algeria.
The opening ceremony of the festival witnessed a speech by the President of the World Union of Hassaniya Writers, Mr. Adouh Ould Benyoug, in which he focused on the importance of reviving Hassaniya culture and warned of the dangers that threaten its extinction.
