Ugandan personalities and organizations express support for struggle of Sahrawi people

Kampala (Uganda) May 26, 2024 (SPS) - Several African and Ugandan organizations expressed their support for the cause of the Sahrawi people in their struggle to liberate he last remaining colony in Africa.

The support was voiced during the celebration of Africa Day in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, which coincides with May 25th. The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, alongside African ambassadors accredited to the country. The Minister of Defense attended the event as a representative of President Yoweri Museveni.

The event featured artistic and folkloric performances presented by teams from several African countries, which expressed the diversity and richness of the continent's civilizations. It also included a speech by the Ugandan Minister of Defense, Mr. Jacob Oboth, and several African and Ugandan organizations, which expressed their support for the cause of the Sahrawi people in their struggle to liberate the last African colony.

Ms. Lulama Xingwana, the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps and on behalf of the group of African Ambassadors, reminded everyone of the full support of the African continent for the people of Western Sahara, which remains under colonial occupation as the last colony in Africa.

On this occasion, the Sahrawi Embassy in Uganda organized a photo exhibition recounting the stages of the Sahrawi people's struggle against Spanish colonialism and the stages of the struggle against the Moroccan invasion, a struggle waged on military, social, and diplomatic fronts.
