Brussels (Belgium), 12 May 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi community in Belgium organized a demonstration in front of the headquarters of European Parliament to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the Polisario Front. The event took place in Brussels on Saturday and was attended by members of the Sahrawi community and a significant number of supporters of the Sahrawi people's cause.
The demonstration aimed to urge the European Union to fulfill its responsibilities towards the Sahrawi people and uphold international legitimacy by respecting the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence. It also aimed to exert pressure on the Moroccan occupation to respect human rights in Western Sahara.
The demonstration was an opportunity to send messages to the European Union, calling for an end to dealings with the Moroccan occupier and to refrain from contributing to the systematic looting of the natural resources of Western Sahara. The demonstrators urged the European Union to suspend all agreements and treaties concluded with the Moroccan occupation regarding Western Sahara and to pressure Morocco to end its occupation of Western Sahara and stop plundering its resources and wealth.
The demonstration also shed light on the serious violations committed by the Moroccan occupation and its security apparatus in the occupied territories of Western Sahara against the Sahrawi civilians. In this context, they demanded the release of all Sahrawi civilian prisoners held in the occupation's prisons.
