Venezuela: Establishment of a Parliamentary Group for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People

Caracas (Venezuela), March 22, 2024 (SPS) - The establishment of the Parliamentary Group for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People was announced at the headquarters of the Venezuelan National Assembly in the capital, Caracas, on Thursday, in the presence of the Sahrawi Ambassador to Venezuela, Mr. Mohamed Salem Al-Rugheibi, the Minister in charge of African Affairs at the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a number of parliamentarians.

The establishment of this group aims at strengthening bilateral relations based on dialogue, support, cooperation and information exchange. The founding ceremony began with the presentation of a video documenting diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the Sahrawi Republic.

The President of the Parliamentary Group for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, Carlos Gamarra (Venezuelan Socialist Party), indicated that the group will work in conjunction with the Venezuelan Association for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, the Sahrawi ambassador accredited in Caracas, and the Deputy Minister in charge of Africa to review the agreements that were signed between the two countries during the state visit led by President Brahim Ghali to Venezuela last year and ensure compliance from within Parliament.

For his part, the Sahrawi Ambassador to Venezuela, Mr. Mohamed Salem Al-Rugheibi, expressed his thanks for the support that Venezuela has been providing to the Sahrawi issue, pointing out that bilateral relations between the two countries have reached higher levels. Deputy Minister for African Affairs, Yuri Pimentel, after reviewing the diplomatic relations between the two countries on issues of common interest, pointed out that President Hugo Chavez, with his great sense of defending just causes, supported the Sahrawi state in several areas.
