UK Reaffirms Support for Sahrawi Self-Determination and De Mistura's Efforts

London (UK), February 29, 2024 (SPS) - The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its traditional position on the Western Sahara issue, which is the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. The UK also expressed its support for the work of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura.

This came in response to a written question from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to a question posed by MP Jeremy Corbyn, a friend of the Sahrawi people and defender of their just cause. Corbyn called on his country to work towards a clear timetable and a specific date for holding the self-determination referendum promised by the UN to the Sahrawi people.
