Occupied Laayoune, February 21, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi civilian prisoner within the Gdeim Izik group and the honorary president of the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan prisons, Ahmed Al-Bashir Ahmed Al-Sibaai, began a 24-hour hunger strike today, Wednesday, in protest against the negligence policy of Moroccan authorities, which banned him from receiving medicine and treatment, according to what was reported by the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners.
The announced hunger strike by the Sahrawi civilian prisoner Ahmed Al-Bashir Ahmed Al-Sibaai, who is present in the Central Prison of Kenitra in Morocco, comes in the context of his demands to respect basic and legitimate rights and ensure adherence to them, in line with what was expressed by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and what is stipulated in the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.
It is worth mentioning that this is the fourth time in a row that Ahmed Al-Bashir Ahmed Al-Sibaai has been prevented from being transported to the hospital to conduct medical examinations at the heart and eye levels, according to instructions from the General Delegation of the Moroccan Prison Administration, as part of its denial of its legal and moral responsibility towards the latter and its refusal to interact positively with all complaints submitted in this regard.
