Quito (Ecuador), January 25, 2024 (SPS) - The Ecuadorian Parliament announced on Tuesday the establishment of the Joint Parliamentary Group for Friendship and Mutual Cooperation with the Sahrawi National Council, which will exercise its duties during the legislative period 2024-2025.

The establishment ceremony was attended by the Sahrawi Ambassador to Ecuador, Mr. Ahmedouha Mohamed Ahmed, and members of the Ecuadorian National Assembly from various political parties. The parliamentary group includes representatives from the Citizen Revolution Movement (Movimiento Revolución Ciudadana) and the SOMA Coalition, in addition to parliamentarians from the Popular Unity Movement (UP).

It’s worth mentioning that the various parliamentary friendship groups with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, which were established in different legislative periods, actively contribute to strengthening parliamentary relations with Africa.

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is one of the founding members of the African Union and has maintained friendly and cooperative relations with Ecuador since November 1983.
