Berlin (Germany), 25 November 2023 (SPS) - The Polisario Front expressed deep concern to the Deutsche Welle media institution regarding its news reports on the conflict in Western Sahara. The Polisario Front urged Deutsche Welle to exercise accuracy and journalistic professionalism in its coverage of the reality of the occupation in Western Sahara.
The representation of the Polisario Front in Germany affirmed, in a letter to the Director of Deutsche Welle media institution, Mr. Peter Limbourg, the Polisario Front's demand for balanced and impartial reporting on the conflict in Western Sahara. It emphasized the necessity of adhering to the Press Law issued by the German Press Council and paying attention to the contents of the Journalistic Code of Ethics included in the same law.
The letter from the Sahrawi diplomatic mission in Berlin came in response to some of the inaccuracies contained in an episode of the "DW Evening" program presented by the Arabic section of the German broadcasting body. The program attempted to describe the occupied city of Smara as Moroccan in the program, which lasted for more than 18 minutes.
