Shaheed El-Hafed, July 13, 2025 (SPS) – The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front has reaffirmed that the UN-African Settlement Plan is the realistic and practical solution to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara.
In a statement concluding the proceedings of its seventh ordinary session, chaired by the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, President of the Republic, Mr. Brahim Ghali, the National Secretariat reiterated that the 1991 UN-African Settlement Plan—accepted by both parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, and unanimously approved by the UN Security Council—remains the only practical and consensual solution to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence through a free and fair referendum under UN and African supervision.
The National Secretariat emphasized the responsibility of the United Nations and its relevant bodies to decolonize Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, reaffirming the Sahrawi party’s cooperation with the efforts of the UN and the African Union to achieve a just and lasting resolution to the conflict between the Sahrawi Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco, in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles and objectives of the African Union.
The National Secretariat renewed the Sahrawi party’s commitment to a just and lasting peace, while stressing the Sahrawi people’s unwavering and inalienable right to self-determination, independence, and resistance by all legitimate means to defend their rights and restore sovereignty over their entire national territory.
