Algeria, November 14, 2023 (SPS) - The President of the National Council and member of the National Secretariat, Mr. Hamma Salama, was received by the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, where the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue were discussed.
Mr. Hama Salama said in a statement to the press after the meeting, that the two sides discussed the difficulties facing the implementation of the peace plan in Western Sahara, “particularly as a result of the Moroccan occupation evading its responsibility and not responding to the resolutions of the United Nations in general and the Security Council in particular, which made the UN mission to organize a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara (MINURSO), unable to fulfill its duty and implement the mission for which it was established.”
The President of the Sahrawi National Council pointed out that there is a similarity between the Sahrawi and Palestinian issues and the suffering of the peoples of the two countries, in light of the violations and war crimes happening in Gaza today, and the Zionist occupation’s evasion of implementing international legitimacy resolutions and the obligations of the two-state solution.
During his discussion of Algeria's role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024-2025, Hamma Salama expressed his conviction that it will have an "effective impact in defending just causes, foremost of which is the Western Sahara issue."
He added that his visit to Algeria was “at the required level,” where he met with many Algerian ministers with the aim of exchanging information and experiences between the two countries.
Finally, Hamma Salama extended his thanks and gratitude to Algeria, led by the President, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for its firm positions and defense of all just causes, most notably the Western Sahara issue, in order to empower oppressed peoples with their right to self-determination.
