Shaheed El Hafed (refugee camps), 21 October 2023 (SPS) - The General Union of Sahrawi Workers (UGTSARIO) has called on Sahrawi workers to continue the process of consolidating and protecting national institutions and to intensify the liberation struggle on all fronts.
"The Sahrawi workers are called upon today, more than ever, to fulfill their role in guiding and defending their rights, in line with the collective will to consolidate and protect national institutions, as well as to intensify the liberation struggle by supporting and assisting the fighters of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA)," UGTSARIO stated in a press release on the occasion of the national day of Sahrawi workers, celebrated on October 20th of each year.
"UGTSARIO celebrates this day in a 'delicate and decisive' period of the Sahrawi people's struggle, in addition to the ongoing struggle of Sahrawi workers, men, and women, like their compatriots, for the recovery of freedom, dignity, and independence," the statement read.
The union expressed its concern in the press release "about the policy of harassment, retaliation, and vengeance adopted by the Moroccan occupier, which systematically targets workers in the occupied territories, with the aim of breaking the will of Sahrawi workers determined to continue their fight against the occupier."
Continuously worried about the humiliations and abuses suffered by the Sahrawis, UGTSARIO urged all nationalists to "intensify activist actions on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the establishment of UGTSARIO and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the national day of Sahrawi workers."
The Union also called for the release of all Sahrawi prisoners languishing in the prisons of the Moroccan authorities, considering it "a central issue in the Sahrawi struggle and resistance for freedom and independence."
