COSATU reaffirms support for Sahrawi people's just struggle for freedom and independence

Pretoria (South Africa), May 9, 2025 (SPS) – The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s just struggle, emphasizing the alignment of its liberation vision and militant values with those of the General Union of Workers of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro (UGTSARIO).

South Africa’s largest trade union federation reiterated its steadfast solidarity during a farewell meeting with the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to South Africa, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, congratulating him on the eve of his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs.

COSATU renewed its enduring commitment to international solidarity and the global struggle against colonialism and occupation, using the farewell occasion to publicly reaffirm its support for the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination, independence, and liberation from Moroccan occupation.
