Shaheed El-Hafed (Refugee Camps), 29 April 2025 (SPS) – The Consultative Council called Tuesday on the international community to pressure the Moroccan occupation state to comply with international legitimacy and international humanitarian law, and to respect the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

In a statement issued after a meeting of its bureau at its headquarters in Shaheed El-Hafed, in the Sahrawi refugee camps, the Council affirmed its "full and permanent commitment to the national plan supporting the international campaign aimed at securing the release of all Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan occupation jails."

The Council stated that this issue "represents a struggle priority and a principled position that cannot be backtracked on, as the freedom of prisoners is an integral part of the Sahrawi people’s battle for freedom and independence."

In this context, the Council urged its representatives across political, regional, and local branches to actively and intensively participate in the planned solidarity vigils and activities in support of the prisoners. It stressed the importance of keeping this issue alive at the forefront of public and political attention and as a top priority in the national struggle.

In the same statement, the Council also emphasized the need to activate communication channels with consultative councils in friendly and sister nations, "to raise awareness about the dire conditions faced by Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan occupation jails, including serious violations such as torture, medical neglect, and solitary confinement—in blatant violation of all international conventions and agreements."
