Occupied El Aaiún, April 25, 2025 (SPS) - Sahrawi civilian prisoner Sidi Abdallah Ahmed Sidi Abhah, one of the detained members of the Gdeim Izik group held in the local prison Tiflet 2 east of the Moroccan capital Rabat, has declared his intention to begin a 48-hour warning hunger strike on Monday and Tuesday. This was reported by the Sahrawi Prisoners' Protection League in Moroccan Prisons.
This strike comes in protest against the systematic mistreatment and grave violations he faces inside the prison.
The Sahrawi Prisoners' Protection League received a detailed report from the prisoner’s family indicating the deterioration of his detention conditions, the continued denial of his basic rights, and the neglect of his demands for fair and humane treatment—prompting him to resort to a hunger strike as a last option to expose the prison’s abuses.
In this context, the Sahrawi Prisoners' Protection League calls on the occupying Moroccan authorities to immediately respond to the prisoner’s demands and reminds them of their legal responsibility for his safety. It also urges human rights organizations and the media to document and widely publicize this case.
