Madrid (Spain), April 23, 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Journalists’ and Writers’ Association in Europe has expressed its strong condemnation of the smear and incitement campaign targeting journalists accompanying French activist Claude Mangin during the Freedom March.
In a statement, the Association denounced the attacks against journalists Mam Deih and Sidah Lajil from the media team Équipe Média, who were covering the Freedom March demanding the release of Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan occupation jails.
The statement added that this systematic targeting raises serious concerns about the suppression of freedoms and the silencing of voices, in violation of freedom of expression and human rights—especially in France, a country that has long presented itself as a democratic nation that upholds principles and humanist values, particularly the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The statement emphasized, "Such targeting in France of Sahrawi journalists, who chose to stand with the voice of justice and freedom while defending human rights, is a stain on the reputation of France, the country of liberties."
The Association declared its full solidarity with the targeted journalists, with Ms. Claude Mangin, and with all participants in the march. It called on French authorities to take responsibility for protecting journalists from defamation and incitement campaigns and to hold those responsible for the attacks accountable.
It also reaffirmed its support for the Freedom March and all voices calling for justice, dignity, and freedom for Sahrawi prisoners.
