Occupied El Aaiún, April 22, 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi civilian prisoner, Hassan Mohammed Radi, a member of the Gdeim Izik media group, has started a 48-hour warning hunger strike, according to a Sahrawi human rights source.

The same source reported that the Sahrawi prisoner began the warning hunger strike in protest against the arbitrary and discriminatory treatment he faces in prison, which recently escalated into verbal abuse by prison staff and guards.

The sources also indicated that the prison administration has denied him the right to purchase food from the prison canteen, in addition to ignoring his fundamental right to continue his education. The necessary academic materials and references for him to complete his university studies have not been provided.

Amid this tragic situation faced by the civilian prisoner Hassan Dah and his fellow Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan occupation prisons, the Sahrawi Prisoners' Protection League reiterates the urgent need to defend their legitimate rights, foremost among them their immediate and unconditional release, in line with the decisions of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
