Shaheed El Hafed (Liberated Territories), March 27, 2025 (SPS) – The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders has called on the Moroccan state to open an investigation into the violent assault suffered by former detainee and activist Mahfouda Bamba Lafkir, President of the Sahrawi Committee of Dismissed Workers and Employees, expelled by the Moroccan state. The incident occurred on March 16 in Smara Street in the occupied city of El Aaiún.

In this context, the Committee of Dismissed Workers and Employees welcomed the step taken by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, urging all UN mechanisms to intervene urgently to halt the ongoing human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The committee also called on the UN Human Rights Commission to pressure for opening the territory to international observers and media, breaking the blockade imposed on the region and exposing the grave violations that Sahrawis face daily at the hands of Moroccan repressive forces.
