Shaheed El Hafed (Refugee Camps), 25 February 2025 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has reaffirmed the Sahrawi people's adherence to its inalienable right to self-determination and independence, as well as its right to resist by all legitimate means, including armed struggle.
In a statement concluding the work of the sixth regular session of its National Secretariat, the Polisario Front reiterated "the Sahrawi party's commitment to the option of a just and lasting peace" and emphasized the Sahrawi people's unwavering and non-negotiable right to self-determination and independence, as well as its right to resist by all legitimate means, including armed struggle.
The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front reaffirmed the Sahrawi party's cooperation with the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union to achieve a just and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the principles and objectives of the African Union.
The statement stressed the need for "the United Nations and its relevant bodies to assume their full responsibility and fulfill their commitment to decolonize Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa." It also reaffirmed that the 1991 UN-OAU Settlement Plan, accepted by both parties to the conflict (the Polisario Front and Morocco) and unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council, "remains the only practical and realistic consensus-based solution."
