Shaheed Al-Hafed, January 9, 2025 (SPS) – As part of the 30th anniversary of cooperation and solidarity between Asturias and the Sahrawi people, a significant institutional delegation from Asturias is visiting the Sahrawi refugee camps.
The delegation, which includes the Director of the Asturian Agency for Development Cooperation, the President of the Asturian Federation of Municipalities, trade unionists, mayors, councilors, and the president of the Asturian Association of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, along with Salamu Hamudi from the Sahrawi Representation in Spain, will stay in the camps from January 10 to 15.
During their visit, the delegation will tour projects funded by Asturias over the past three decades, which have significantly improved living conditions in the Sahrawi camps. These projects include initiatives in areas such as education, health, food security, and community development, as well as the "Vacations in Peace" program and the humanitarian caravan, reflecting Asturias' sustained commitment to the Sahrawi cause.
Additionally, the visit will include a series of official meetings with Sahrawi authorities to address current challenges and strengthen cooperative ties. One of the highlights will be the celebration of the anniversary of twinning between Asturian municipalities and Sahrawi wilayas and dairas, which total 29—a gesture symbolizing the unity and joint efforts of both peoples.
This visit reaffirms Asturias' historical commitment to the Sahrawi people, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and international cooperation as fundamental tools for building a better future. Asturias will continue to work for the dignity and well-being of the Sahrawi people, renewing its support during this important anniversary that values three decades of friendship and shared effort.
