Auserd (refugee camps), October 20, 2024 (SPS) - The Secretary General of the Sahrawi Trade Union “UGTSARIO”, Mr. Salama al-Bashir, stressed during the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the union and the Sahrawi Worker's Day corresponding to October 20,  that this event represents evidence and a symbol of solidarity and unity of workers and their joint struggle against all forms of exploitation and colonial domination, starting with Spanish colonialism and ending with the Moroccan invasion and occupation of Western Sahara in one of the worst manifestations of injustice known to humanity in its contemporary history, especially in the twentieth century, and it continues to this day.

Mr. Salama al-Bashir highlighted that this event has established a National Day for workers in the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, in which they commemorate the memory of every worker who fell in defense of rights and gains and defense of the homeland because the first right of the worker is his right to a safe and stable homeland and a healthy, safe and secure work environment.

The Secretary-General of the Sahrawi Trade Union added that this day represents for the workers of the Sahrawi state a station in which their eternal message is renewed in loyalty to the sacrifices of their ancestors, the martyrs, for dignity and independence, and in preserving trade union rights and freedoms and consolidating the guarantees approved by the Sahrawi state and the Polisario Front, which believes in decent work and fair wages for all, and confirming their determination to continue confronting the forces of plunder, its gangs, colonialism and its malicious plans aimed at destroying, exploiting and plundering the wealth of Western Sahara in flagrant violation of international resolutions, the latest of which was the recent historic, courageous, just and humane decision of the European Court of Justice.

The Sahrawi official added that this anniversary and this glorious day are being commemorated in the midst of extremely difficult circumstances experienced by workers in the entire world, as the forces of tyranny, aggression and evil continue to implement their aggressive policies, thus destabilizing global stability, which we see and live clearly through the destruction of free homelands and terrorizing their peoples in a desperate effort to maintain their colonial economic hegemony.

The speaker pointed out that the occasion also comes in the midst of the continued aggression and attempts to circumvent the sanctities and rights of our struggling people, and even more than that, the transition to imposing a new reality based on displacement and the elimination of us, our values, our national identity and our national project, no matter what the cost, and the continuation of the policies of oppression against our workers in the occupied territories and our prisoners in the occupation's detention centers and prisons, and the major repercussions resulting from all of this, which threaten to further destabilize the region.

Mr. Salama Al-Bashir said, “what the Sahrawi people and workers are facing and being subjected to, and what crimes are being practiced against them, and what the workers and people of Palestine are suffering from genocide and dangerous practices condemned amidst the suspicious silence of those who claim international law and human rights, is another clear evidence of the arrogance and brutality of the forces of evil and injustice and their tools in Rabat and Tel Aviv”.

The activities commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Sahrawi Trade Union continue for three days with the organization of exhibitions and an International Labor Forum in Solidarity with the Sahrawi People.
