Shaheed Al Hafed (Sahrawi Republic), August 17, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deep astonishment at the unilateral step taken by the Chadian government on August 14th, 2024, announcing, alongside the Kingdom of Morocco, the opening of a fictitious "consulate" of Chad in the city of Dakhla, which is considered part of the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
The Sahrawi government considers this decision illegal, contradicting international and African law, and violating international diplomatic norms and conventions.
The Sahrawi government affirmed in its statement that this step by Chad constitutes a blatant violation of the UN Charter and an illegal decision, in addition to being aggressive, provocative, and unjustified.
It also constitutes an attack on the sovereignty of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and negatively affects its territorial integrity.
Furthermore, it contradicts the principles of the African Union's Constitutive Act and violates all UN resolutions and recommendations as well as the rulings of the International Court of Justice regarding Western Sahara. (SPS)
