Occupied El-Aaiún, 3 April 2024 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation continues its serious violations against Sahrawi civil prisoners by intensifying retaliatory measures against them, pushing them to engage in hunger strikes that endanger their lives, such as the case of the civil prisoner Abd al-Moula Mohamed Al-Hafed.
Abd al-Moula Mohamed Al-Hafed has been on an open hunger strike since the first of April, protesting against ill-treatment, according to a Sahrawi human rights source, citing the prisoner's sister.
According to the same source, Abd al-Moula Mohamed Al-Hafed "began an open hunger strike as a result of the confiscation of the right to make phone calls and the lack of necessary medical care, in addition to the General Delegation for the Management of Moroccan Prisons' disregard for all the fundamental rights guaranteed by international conventions and agreements for prisoners of conscience and Sahrawi political prisoners."
The Sahrawi civil prisoner Abd al-Moula Mohamed Al-Hafed has remained among the group of student activists under arrest for the past seven years, moving between several Moroccan prisons under inhuman and degrading detention conditions, accompanied by psychological torture and harsh and humiliating mistreatment due to his human rights and political activism advocating for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence."
