Auserd Wilaya, 29 October 2026 (SPS) – Thousands of Sahrawi refugees of all ages took part in mass demonstrations in Auserd wilaya on Thursday, reaffirming their commitment to independence and their support for the Polisario Front as the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people.

The demonstrators rejected autonomy and any other solution that would deny the Sahrawi people their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

Participants, including women, children, men and elderly people, marched carrying Sahrawi national flags and chanting slogans such as “No to autonomy, Western Sahara’s independence is coming,” “We would rather die united than live divided,” and “There is no alternative to self-determination.”

The crowds, representing the wilaya’s various districts and institutions, gathered at the official event platform, where speakers reiterated the Sahrawi people’s rejection of any settlement that would deprive them of their right to determine their own future. They also denounced the latest US draft resolution on Western Sahara before the UN Security Council.

Speakers stressed that more than five decades of sacrifice by the Sahrawi people would not be in vain, emphasising that no one could replace the Sahrawi people in deciding their future.

The demonstrations also featured artistic performances and patriotic songs celebrating the Sahrawi people’s struggle, aspirations for freedom and independence, and national achievements.

The mobilisation comes ahead of the anticipated Security Council decision on Western Sahara, amid concerns over efforts to impose a fait accompli and undermine the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

Similar mass demonstrations have been held across the Sahrawi refugee camps, rejecting the US draft resolution and reaffirming the people’s commitment to freedom, independence and the Polisario Front as their sole legitimate representative.
