Shaheed El Hafed, 22 October 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Consultative Council concluded the proceedings of its fourth ordinary session, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening and safeguarding national unity and rallying around the Polisario Front as the legitimate and sole representative of the Sahrawi people.
In a statement issued to mark the 51st anniversary of the proclamation of National Unity, which the Council commemorates as its national day, the Council also recalled the 52nd anniversary of the first armed operation carried out by a group of Sahrawi fighters against Spanish colonialism on 20 October 1974.
In its statement addressed to national and international public opinion, the Consultative Council outlined several key positions. It reaffirmed that the Polisario Front is the legitimate and sole representative of the Sahrawi people and the framework that unites them, as well as the guarantor of preserving the national project. The Council also renewed its members’ commitment to ensuring the success of all national undertakings.
The Council stressed that national unity is the foundation of the Sahrawi people's existence and a red line that must not be crossed, adding that confronting any attempt to undermine it is a national duty incumbent upon all citizens.
It also reaffirmed its determination to continue the legitimate struggle until the Sahrawi people achieve their inalienable right to freedom, independence and self-determination.
The Consultative Council expressed its full solidarity with Sahrawi political prisoners, including those on hunger strike in Moroccan prisons, and their families.
