Shaheed El Hafed, 10 October 2026 (SPS) – The Preparatory Committee for the 17th Congress of the Polisario Front held its second meeting on Saturday at the headquarters of the National Council, chaired by National Secretariat member Buchrayia Hamoudi Beyoun, to continue preparations for the upcoming congress.

The meeting focused on approving the committee’s internal rules and announcing the formation of subcommittees tasked with overseeing various aspects of the preparations. These steps aim to strengthen coordination, distribute tasks and responsibilities, and ensure the orderly conduct of the preparatory process.

The measures form part of the committee’s mandate to create the necessary conditions for the successful convening of the congress and encourage participation in national discussions on political, organizational and national issues in light of the challenges facing the current stage.

The meeting also featured a solidarity vigil in support of Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan prisons, particularly the prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group who are on hunger strike, reaffirming the central importance of the issue of prisoners and detainees in the Sahrawi national struggle.

The meeting comes amid ongoing preparations for the Polisario Front’s 17th Congress, which represents an important political and organizational milestone for evaluating past experience, strengthening national action and setting priorities for the next stage in pursuit of the Sahrawi people’s aspirations for freedom, self-determination and independence.
