Shaheed El Hafed, 22 September 2026 (SPS) – The National Mechanism for Coordinating Human Rights Action issued a statement warning of the danger posed by the continued policies of systematic repression and restrictions carried out by the Moroccan occupying authorities in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
The statement stressed that violations have been escalating markedly as October approaches, with its significant UN-related milestones, most notably the consideration of the United Nations Secretary-General’s report, as well as the commemoration by the Sahrawi people of National Unity Day on 12 October.
The Mechanism stressed that targeting citizens and activists because of their peaceful positions represents a desperate attempt to deter them from asserting their inalienable right to self-determination and independence. It called for independent and transparent international investigations to ensure accountability for those responsible for serious violations.
