Luanda (Angola), August 30, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic presented a set of practical proposals during the 21st Extraordinary Summit of the African Union, dedicated to examining ways to strengthen mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts on the continent. The proposals were outlined by President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, in his address to African leaders.
President Brahim Ghali indicated that, within the framework of the summit’s theme, the Sahrawi Republic proposes a number of practical measures:
First: Strengthening the preventive role of the African Peace and Security Council and enabling it to intervene at an early stage in conflicts that threaten peace and stability across all parts of the continent without exception, as provided for in the protocol establishing the Council.
Second: Developing the African Early Warning System and linking it to rapid and effective political and diplomatic response mechanisms.
Third: Establishing more effective mechanisms to follow up on the implementation of African Union decisions related to conflicts, including decisions concerning decolonization and the right to self-determination.
Fourth: Strengthening coordination between the African Union and the United Nations, while preserving the central role of the African Union in addressing all conflicts occurring on the continent.
Fifth: Strengthening the protection of civilians and ensuring respect for international humanitarian law and human rights in conflict zones.
Sixth: Paying particular attention to the issues of refugees and displaced persons, and ensuring their right to a safe, voluntary, and dignified return to their homes.
