Sahrawi civil society delegation takes part in World Social Forum in Cotonou

Cotonou (Benin), August 5, 2026 (SPS) – A Sahrawi delegation representing Sahrawi civil society organizations has arrived in the Beninese capital, Cotonou, to participate in the 17th edition of the World Social Forum.

The Sahrawi delegation is expected to organize workshops, seminars, and networking meetings with hundreds of organizations and civil society groups from across the world. It will also take part in a range of cultural and media activities throughout the forum.

The head of the Sahrawi delegation, Secretary-General of the General Union of Workers of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro stated that the participation is of paramount importance in advancing efforts to raise international awareness of the just struggle of the Sahrawi people and to strengthen global solidarity. He noted that the forum provides a valuable opportunity to engage with organizations and civil society actors from around the world.

Held this year under the theme "Another World Is Possible," the forum features a broad Sahrawi representation, including mass organizations, professional unions, associations, human rights defenders, activists, journalists, and artists.

The forum brings together hundreds of organizations, including trade unions and solidarity institutions from all continents, as well as representatives of workers, women, and youth movements. It also features strong African participation alongside the host country, with Algeria notably represented by several organizations and civil society bodies in this year's edition.
