Twinning agreement renewed between Italy's province of Prato and Dakhla Wilaya

Prato (Italy), July 23, 2026 (SPS) – The twinning agreement between the Italian Province of Prato and the Sahrawi Wilaya of Dakhla was renewed today, Thursday.

The renewal agreement was signed during the visit of an official Sahrawi delegation to Prato. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two local authorities and promote solidarity, dialogue, and exchanges between their communities.

The Sahrawi delegation included the Governor of El Aaiun Wilaya, Ghouth Mamouni; the Governor of Dakhla Wilaya, M'hamed Cheikh Mohamed Lahbib; the Polisario Front Representative in Italy, Fatma Mahfoud; Abdallah Mohamed Salem Bouchiba, representative in the Tuscany region; Giacomo Mari, representing the Sahrawi Network; and Simone Bolognesi of the Città Visibili APS organization.

The delegation was received by the President of the Province of Prato, Simone Calamai, who expressed his satisfaction with the renewal of the longstanding friendship and the continued exchange of experience between the two sides.

The renewed agreement also paves the way for future cooperation and the exchange of ideas, with particular emphasis on international cooperation projects, cultural exchanges, and initiatives supporting the Little Sahrawi Ambassadors of Peace program, which for more than 40 years has symbolized solidarity between Italian communities and the Sahrawi people.

Friendship agreements are recognized as effective instruments of local diplomacy, fostering institutional relations, encouraging cooperative projects, and strengthening ties between communities.

The renewal of the agreement between the Province of Prato and Dakhla Wilaya reflects the shared commitment to continue this partnership, founded on the values of peace, international cooperation, and respect for the rights of peoples.

The meeting formed part of the official visit of the Sahrawi delegation to Italy, organized within the framework of the Little Ambassadors of Peace program, underscoring the important role of Italian local institutions in promoting friendship, solidarity, and cooperation with the Sahrawi people.
