Modena (Italy), July 21, 2026 (SPS) – The President of Italy's Province of Modena, Mr. Fabio Braglia, received Tuesday a Sahrawi delegation at the provincial headquarters.
The delegation was led by Mr. Mohamed Cheikh Mohamed Lahbib, Governor of Dakhla Wilaya, and was attended by several mayors from municipalities across the province.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the current situation of the Sahrawi cause and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between the institutions of Modena Province and the Sahrawi people.
In his welcoming remarks, President Fabio Braglia reaffirmed the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity linking the province with the Sahrawi people. He reiterated his support for their legitimate right to freedom, self-determination, and independence, while praising the resilience of the Sahrawi people and the justice of their struggle.
For their part, the mayors attending the meeting reaffirmed their continued commitment to supporting the Sahrawi cause, highlighting the efforts made by their municipalities in the fields of political and humanitarian solidarity, particularly through the successful implementation of the Holidays in Peace program, which welcomes Sahrawi children every summer.
In his address, the Governor of Dakhla Wilaya outlined the political, social, and economic conditions prevailing in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
The Governor extended an official invitation to the President of Modena Province to visit the Sahrawi refugee camps and gain firsthand insight into the realities faced by their inhabitants. The Italian official welcomed the invitation and expressed his willingness to undertake the visit.
The Sahrawi delegation is expected to continue its series of meetings and contacts with officials in several Italian cities and provinces in the coming days as part of a program aimed at strengthening solidarity ties and raising awareness of the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause.
