London, June 27, 2026 (SPS) – Six Members of the British Parliament from different political parties have submitted a motion calling on the UK Government to use its position and influence within the United Nations Security Council to support progress toward holding a referendum on self-determination for the Sahrawi people in Western Sahara, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and international law.

The motion reaffirms the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and expresses concern over the continued conflict in the territory and the documented human rights violations. It also urges the British Government to reiterate its support for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and to work within the UN Security Council to advance the long-delayed referendum.

The proposal further calls on the airline Ryanair to cease promoting tourism in Western Sahara as though it were part of Morocco, and to comply with the standards of the UK's Advertising Standards Authority and international law.
