Florence (Tuscany), 23 June 2026 (SPS) – The political groups represented in the Regional Council of the Italian region of Tuscany have announced the establishment of a cross-party parliamentary group to support the just Sahrawi cause.
This important step reflects the broad political consensus in Italy, across different political currents, regarding the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
The announcement of this solidarity initiative came through the efforts of the Green and Left Alliance (AVS) bloc, with the broad participation of regional councillors representing major Italian political parties from both the governing majority and the opposition, including the Democratic Party, the Brothers of Italy Party, the Five Star Movement, and the Casa Riformista bloc.
The Polisario Front representative, Abdullah Mohamed Salem, expressed his deep gratitude to all political formations in the region, emphasizing the great importance of the continuation of this political and institutional support in accompanying the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people until they achieve their full rights.
The establishment of this cross-party parliamentary group represents a new chapter in the long-standing historical and institutional solidarity linking the Tuscany region with the Sahrawi cause. It is expected to strengthen international efforts aimed at enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their recognized right to self-determination and to build their independent state, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
