Swedish Foreign Ministry receives Aminatou Haidar to discuss developments in the Sahrawi issue

Stockholm (Sweden), May 22, 2026 (SPS) – The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the President of the Sahrawi Body Against the Moroccan Occupation (ISACOM), Ms. Aminatou Haidar, at its headquarters in the capital Stockholm, as part of a working visit to Sweden that included a series of diplomatic meetings with several international actors and ambassadors of friendly and sister countries.

During the meeting, Aminatou Haidar discussed with Swedish Foreign Ministry officials the latest developments in Western Sahara. She provided a briefing on the political and human rights aspects related to the conflict, highlighting the ongoing human rights violations in the occupied territories, as well as the situation of Sahrawi prisoners and the conditions faced by activists and human rights defenders.

The discussions also addressed the humanitarian and social dimensions of the conflict, including issues related to natural resources, tensions linked to the situation on the ground, and the repercussions affecting the Sahrawi people. The importance of strengthening the role of the international community in supporting efforts aimed at finding a just and lasting solution to the Sahrawi issue, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions guaranteeing the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, was also emphasized.

This meeting comes within the framework of intensive diplomatic activities carried out by the President of ISACOM during her visit to Sweden, where she met with several ambassadors of sister and friendly countries, including representatives of Algeria, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Botswana, and Cuba, during an official dinner held in her honor at the residence of the Algerian ambassador in Stockholm.
