Kampala (Uganda), 13 May 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participated in a continental workshop organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, held in Kampala, Uganda, from 11 to 13 May 2026.

The Africa CDC is working to develop a clear strategy and action plan to strengthen health systems in responding to diseases that claim the lives of individuals and families on a daily basis, particularly sickle cell anemia. Participants are also discussing ways to strengthen and advance multisectoral issues related to these diseases. In this context, there is a need to increase funding for the health sector, advocate for these diseases, ensure political commitment at the highest level, and support research and studies in the fields of widespread diseases.

The Sahrawi Republic was represented at the meeting by Ms. Dumaha Mohamed Embarek, Central Director of Medical Care, and Mr. Bashir Saleh, Head of the Studies Department and Officer in Charge of the Africa File at the Ministry of Public Health.
