Russian Federation stresses need to reach just settlement to Western Sahara issue in accordance with principles of UN Charter

Moscow (Russia), April 29, 2026 (SPS) – The Russian Federation affirmed, in a statement by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the need to reach a fair and mutually acceptable settlement of the situation concerning Western Sahara, on the basis of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and within procedures consistent with the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed in its statement that the Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Kirill Logvinov, held a meeting with a delegation from the Polisario Front led by Mohamed Yeslem Beisset, as part of consultations on international and regional issues.

The statement added that the talks focused on developments in Western Sahara and prospects for reaching a solution to the ongoing conflict, with both sides exchanging views on possible ways to advance the settlement process.

This meeting comes within the context of ongoing international efforts to find a political solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.
