French MP reaffirms support for Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination on 50th anniversary of SADR

Paris, April 11, 2026 (SPS) – French Member of Parliament Jean-Paul Lecoq, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly and president of the study group on Western Sahara, has reaffirmed his support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

In a message addressed to participants in the celebrations, the French parliamentarian affirmed that his political action remains “guided by respect for international law,” recalling that the right of peoples to self-determination is one of its fundamental principles. He also denounced “expansionist ambitions” and violations of international principles, stressing the importance of respecting borders, natural resources, and biodiversity within the framework of peoples’ rights.

He underlined the need to continue efforts to uphold international law, praising the perseverance of the Sahrawi people’s struggle, which he said is illustrated by 50 years of fighting for freedom and independence.

Finally, Mr. Lecoq extended his congratulations to the Sahrawi people on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the SADR, reaffirming that actions of solidarity and support will continue.
