Occupied El Aaiun, April 6, 2026 (SPS) – The League for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons has called on international human rights organizations to urgently intervene to protect the two Sahrawi students, Ibrahim Babit and Salah Eddine Essabbar, from serious violations they are subjected to by the Moroccan occupation.

In a statement, the League added that it is closely monitoring the situation of the two prisoners, holding the Moroccan prison administration fully responsible for their health and safety.

The League expressed its deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the two Sahrawi civilian prisoners, who are on an open-ended hunger strike inside the local prison of Ait Melloul 1 in Agadir, Morocco.

The League pointed out that the prisoners’ hunger strike aims to shed light on the suffering of Sahrawi students in Moroccan prisons as a result of systematic targeting, such as harassment, fabricated charges and the use of a non-independent judiciary to issue unjust sentences against them in retaliation for their political positions and their defense of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.
