Solidarity event with Sahrawi people held in Colombia on 50th anniversary of SADR

Bogotá (Colombia), March 18, 2026 (SPS) – Within the framework of the CELAC-Africa Academic Forum, a special solidarity event with the Sahrawi people was held Tuesday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), at the Externado University of Colombia.

During the panel at the Externado University in Bogotá, Professor Jerónimo Delgado spoke, addressing the issue from the perspective of international law and the question of Western Sahara. In his presentation, he highlighted the commitment of broad sectors of the Colombian people and the government of the Historic Pact to the Sahrawi cause.

For his part, the ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Colombia, Mohamed Ali Ali Salem, reviewed the historical events that took place after Spain withdrew from the territory, emphasizing the process of institutional state-building of the Sahrawi state.

The event was attended by the ambassador of Algeria in Colombia, Abderrahman Temeur; the Minister-Counsellor of the Venezuelan embassy in Colombia, Armando Franchi; Teresa Alonso Malagón, member of the leadership of the Comunes party; Carlos Arturo García, representative of the Communist Party; and Francisco Maltés, representing the CUT.

The activity also brought together professors, students and citizens in solidarity with the Sahrawi cause, who expressed their support for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people and for the integrity of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
