Cairo (Egypt), September 14, 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participated in the proceedings of the 21st Meeting of Senior Officials of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, from September 11 to 14, 2025. The delegation was represented by Counselor of the Sahrawi Republic’s Permanent Mission to the African Union, Mr. Aman Sidi Abdullah.
This meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming Trade Ministers' Meeting scheduled for September 15-16.
During this continental gathering, the Committee of Senior Trade Officials reviewed a series of reports from subcommittees, such as those on Goods, Services, Intellectual Property, Competition Policy, and Digital Trade, as well as the Dispute Settlement and Rules of Origin committees, particularly pending clauses related to textiles and the automotive industry.
The discussions addressed the follow-up on the work of national committees responsible for implementing the Continental Free Trade Area, in addition to reviewing certain service-related proposals submitted by three member states.
It is worth noting that four Sahrawi experts had participated in parallel subcommittee meetings earlier in September in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, which were dedicated to preparing for the Senior Officials' Meeting. There, they collaborated with their counterparts from member states to discuss specialized committee reports and coordinate positions before presenting them to the proceedings in Cairo.
