Dakhla (Occupied Territories), 19 August 2025 (SPS) - Sahrawi youth in the occupied part of Western Sahara have launched a campaign on the streets and on social media platforms, denouncing the Moroccan occupation's plundering of their resources and rejecting its maneuvers and schemes aimed at circumventing their right to self-determination, freedom, and independence.
This campaign, held under the slogan "No future for us with you," emerges amidst widespread popular rejection of the Moroccan occupation, which deprives Sahrawis of their wealth and imposes a severe economic blockade to deprive them of their daily sustenance, in retaliation for their positions demanding freedom and independence.
This campaign also targets the occupying Moroccan state, which has killed, displaced, exiled, and impoverished the people of the Sahrawi nation. It comes after a long wait for the international community to act on its commitments and organize a self-determination referendum, instead of standing by as they are deprived of their natural wealth and resources, which Morocco exploits as a tool to buy allegiances and impose its alleged "sovereignty" over the occupied territory through approaches rejected by the Sahrawi people, the sole sovereign over their land.
In a statement to APS, the director of "Equipe Media," a media agency operating in the occupied Sahrawi territories, Ahmed Tanji, clarified that this campaign is a "cry of protest raised by Sahrawi youth, rejecting the policy of systematic depletion targeting the region's resources, especially in the occupied city of Dakhla."
For his part, Sahrawi human rights activist Hassana Aba Moulay Dahi Badi confirmed in a post on social media that this campaign comes at a time "when the Moroccan occupation is trying to promote a false image of development and prosperity in the occupied city of Dakhla, but the reality on the ground is a policy of systematic marginalization and exclusion, the price of which is paid by Sahrawi youth every day."
