New York (United Nations), August 14, 2025 (SPS) – In a recent statement to Radio Algérie Internationale, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, Polisario Front’s representative to the UN, and MINURSO coordinator, indicated that last week’s high-level meeting between the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs and the UK Minister of State was a preliminary step, reflecting hopes for continued dialogue between the two parties to deepen discussions and mutual understanding on issues of shared interest.

The Sahrawi diplomat noted that the high-level meeting held particular significance, as it exposed the false propaganda of the occupying Moroccan state, which has been misleading its domestic audience into believing that the Western Sahara issue has been "closed" after some countries expressed unjustified and illegal support for Morocco’s occupation.

The meeting between the Sahrawi Foreign Minister and the UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa—held at the latter’s invitation—demonstrated the special attention the United Kingdom, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, gives to the Sahrawi cause, as well as its willingness to play a constructive role in advancing the UN-led peace process.

The Sahrawi diplomat added that the meeting sent a clear message to the occupying Moroccan state, particularly regarding its attempts to distort the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people and the Polisario Front. "Here is Great Britain meeting with a high-level Sahrawi delegation, reaffirming the undeniable truth: the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination is an established and internationally recognized right, and the Polisario Front is its sole legitimate representative," he said.

Last week, a Sahrawi delegation led by Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, met with UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office headquarters in London.

Joining the Sahrawi minister at the meeting were Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, Polisario Front’s UN representative and MINURSO coordinator; Mohamed Sidati, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, the Polisario Front’s representative to the UK and Northern Ireland; and Sidi Breika, the outgoing Polisario Front representative to the UK. On the British side, the minister’s advisors and relevant FCDO directors were in attendance.
